Volunteer Opportunity of the Week!

Beacon Hospice Logo

Do you have the Heart of Hospice? Become a Beacon Hospice volunteer.

A hospice volunteer offers companionship, support, a helping hand to patients with terminal illnesses. No matter who you are, you have something to offer hospice patients. You can make a profound difference in a person's life whether it is a 15 minute visit, writing letters, playing music, or just sitting quietly, holding a patient's hand. Volunteers play an integral role in Beacon Hospice's team approach to care that focuses on comfort, dignity and peace for the patient and their family.

Oil Painting Demonstration

Join the Woburn Guild of Artists on Thursday, March 15 for an Oil Painting Demonstration with Celia Judge.

Celia Judge is a Massachusetts-based impressionist-realist who paints the surrounding New England Landscape, Seascape, and Cityscape.  Her paintings reflect a traditional style of art emphasizing the romantic view of nature, children, and life.  Celia works mainly in oils but is an accomplished watercolorist and pastelist as well.

This demonstration will take place in the New Horizons Terrace Lounge from 7-9pm.

Puppet Workshop at the Woburn Public Library

Looking for something fun to do during school vacation? Come to the Children’s Room of the Woburn Public Library on Wednesday, February 22, from 10:30—11:30 am and learn how to make sock puppets! You’ll discover ways to make funny faces and costumes for your sock buddies, then use them at home to make up puppet shows. All you need to do is bring lots of imagination—we’ll supply the rest. (If you want, you can bring in supplies to share, like buttons, rickrack, trim, wiggle eyes, glue-on jewels, and similar craft supplies, though we’re sure to have plenty on hand.)

This program is for all ages, but we ask that children 6 and younger have an adult to assist with this activity. Please be on time for the best selection; clean-up will begin promptly at 11:30, and you want to be sure you have enough time to finish your puppet masterpieces.

This event is handicapped accessible.  If accommodations are required, please call the Children’s Room at 781-937-0404 for further information.

Gardeners Needed!

Are you interested in gardening?  Have you been told that you have a green thumb?  If so, this may be the volunteer opportunity for you!

A few volunteers are needed to help in the Woburn Community Garden.  Volunteers are needed to work 2-4 garden plots that were set up last year to raise fresh produce for the Food Pantry.

If this gardening project is something that interests you, please contact Karen Coletrella via email or through the Council of Social Concern at (781) 935-6495.
