2010 Election

Look to the Record not the Rhetoric

Did you read incumbent State Representative Jim Dwyer's answer to the Reading Advocate's Question of the Week? (http://www.wickedlocal.com/woburn/news/x790231066/Ask-the-candidates-Que...) If you did, please do not be fooled by his answer. When unopposed and unaccountable, the incumbent supported each and everything he said that he wants to cut.

Expanded gambling isn't the answer

Sales taxes of 3%, 5% and 6.25% and the lottery have not lessened the burden on the Massachusetts taxpayer. Casinos and racinos will not lighten the taxpayer's loads. For the taxpayer to benefit from casinos and racinos, the state needs to cut unnecessary spending and stop cutting local aid. Until that happens, there will not be any additional revenue for cities and towns.

With your support, I will fight back against Beacon Hill's pay more, spend more, get less mentality. To learn more about my campaign for State Representative, please visit my website at www.karafratto.com.

Campaign Help

Things are really heating up on the campaign trail. Voters are upset with the status quo on Beacon Hill and don’t feel that we should be paying more in taxes while Massachusetts continues to increase spending, but cut services and raise local taxes. They understand that the only way to change Beacon Hill is to elect new representatives.

Strength in Numbers

It is really a shame that the government is not listening to the people. Over two weeks ago, the people of Reading voted in a special election on the issue of the imposed local meals tax. Although the majority of votes were to repeal the meals tax, the sounds of voters fell on deaf ears since the vote had less than a 20 percent overall voter turnout.

Election Year Vote or Sincere Vote?

Those that read incumbent State Representative, James J. Dwyer’s most recent Legislative Update might be perplexed by his most recent position on Massachusetts’s new alcohol tax.

Yes, Mr. Dwyer voted to impose the alcohol tax last year.

During last year’s budget debate, the Massachusetts Legislature, voted to impose the new 6.25% sales tax in addition to the alcohol excise tax, which subjects alcohol to double taxation. Mr. Dwyer voted to impose the alcohol tax first as an amendment to the budget and then when he voted for the budget.

Campaign Update from Kara Fratto

Last Tuesday, I picked up my nomination papers from the Secretary of State's office. If you are available to help me collect some signatures, please let me know. I need 150 good signatures so there is a lot of work to do to make sure my name gets on the ballot. Let me know if you can help and I will get you signature sheets. My goal is to collect well over 150 signatures in order to reach out to more voters in the district.
