Iyeoka Okoawo Kicks Off the Citizens Park Summer Concert Series

The Citizens Park Summer Concert Series kicks off this Friday, June 20, with Iyeoka Okoawo and her band The Funk Tribe. The concert runs from 7:00-9:00 PM in Citizens Park, located on Main Street (Route 38) across from the Common. This concert is sponsored by Woburn Mall/KGI Properties.

Boston-based Nigerian-American performing artist and award winning poet Iyeoka Okoawo is at the forefront of creating a new artistic genre that gracefully interweaves spoken word poetry with jazz, blues, gospel and neo-soul influenced song.

Bring your family, friends and lawn chairs to Citizens Park to enjoy free concerts every other Friday throughout the summer. With generous support from local businesses, the Concert Series is free to the public.

Pleasantly Surprised!

I went to this show with an open mind not knowing what to expect from the description posted on this web site about the artist.

I found the artist and the band to be very entertaining and exceptionally good. The differing styles of music that they performed throughout the evening showcased each member of the bands varoius talents, interests and genres.

I was not disappointed but if you misssed this act you missed perhaps the best show of the season.
