Peanut allergies and our first week in kindergarden
Hello
We have made it three days so far in our new school. My son has been prepped. We keep practicing different scenarios he may encounter. Despite the fact we are trying to prepare him, I have already learned he will still be tempted and/or exposed. As he described his first day at the peanut free lunch table to myself and my husband, we were taken aback. He said the boy sitting next to him wiped his straw that had chocolate milk on it, on his cheek. My son tried to protect himself by asking the boy to stop and he did not. My son was then so upset, he kept saying to me, I didn't know what was on his straw. He also went on to say the boy told him that know he was going to get sick! Can you believe this?? We tried not to make too much out of it as to not make my son extremely anxious. I did, however, have a conversation with his kindergarden teacher(in private). She agreed this was not the way to start his school experience. The next day my son took his friend to the allergy free table for lunch with him, he needed a little moral support. He reported to me that this boy did not bother him. I did feel a little better.
New week. We received a letter home from his teacher and the school nurse which had to be signed by each parent. It stated that a child in the classroom has a peanut allergy. This form was to inform parents they needed to send in peanut free snacks for the classroom(morning snack is in class). There have also been signs posted outside the door of his room and inside the classroom. I have kept close conversation with his teacher in hopes this will help with my anxiety.
Next hurdle, the bus---Aaggghhhhh. We drove him the first two days. We weren't sure of the safety with kids potentially eating and him being exposed with no adult around other than the bus driver. Today he rode the bus both to and from school. When he got off the bus he informed us the kids were having snacks. I am not sure how to handle this one other than driving him every day. This is difficult related to the new school merger and the confusion with parking and getting him in school. We are not sure what we will do just yet:(
Will update soon!!! Please feel free to comment if anyone has any suggestions or tips. I need all the help I can get!

Thanks for the update
Sounds like you've navigated some tricky challenges. I bumped into another parent with a food allergy child in the public schools at an event this weekend; she said she'll join and share. Hope she might have some good tips as her son is a bit older and thus has dealt with some of these issues for awhile.
