SCI Woburn Youth Council Awards Mini-Grants

Mini-Grant AwardThe Woburn Youth Council is proud to announce it has decided to fund 6 mini-grant projects.  Each project funded by the Woburn Youth Council is a community service learning project led by a Woburn youth.   The projects accomplish SCI's major goals in its youth programming: engage youth in service of their community and create a new generation of young leaders.

The youth council will fund the following projects:

Teen Awareness Night: The Boys & Girls Club of Woburn's Keystone Club will host its annual Teen Awareness Night a mock house party designed to teach youth responsible behavior before prom night.

Get Green!: The Keystone Club will also be working to make our area greener by educating teens about proper recycling techniques.

Mary Cummings Park Cleanup: Two local youth have designed a project to clean up Mary Cummings Park and educate citizens about wildlife in the area.

Adopt a Grandparent: The Boys & Girls Club's Tanner Torch Club will visit the Frances Street Nursing home and connect with senior citizens over board games and parties.

Cuminar for Cancer The Torch Club will also be running a Cancer Awareness Walk in honor of Ethan Hickey and in support of Bridget Sweeney.  The walk will be held May 17th at Horn Pond.  To sign up to walk or learn more contact Meg Gambale at mgambale@sciwoburn.org.

The Giving Camp: Woburn Memorial High School's Interact Club will host its annual Giving Camp designed to provide activities for those with mental and physical challenges.

The Youth Council is honored to fund each of these worthy programs and would like to thank all of those who applied.

The Woburn Youth Council Mini-Grant program is made possible by support from Danversbank.  The Youth Council is coordinated by SCI, the Boys & Girls Club of Woburn and the YMCA, with support from the Foley Hoag Foundation, MSA and AmeriCorps.
