Summer Activities at the Woburn Public Library

Summer is here and the library is going green! From crafts to video games, animals to prizes, you never know what you’ll find at the library this summer.
Students entering grades kindergarten through 5 are invited to sign up online at www.readsinMA.org/woburn. They are excited to have their program completely computerized! If you don’t have a computer at home, don’t worry—they have computers you can use at the library.
They also have a limited number of paper trackers, but they urge everyone to use the computers this summer and save a tree! Each week that you meet your reading goal, you can select a free museum pass for that week. At the end of the program, if you have completed at least four weeks of reading, you will receive a certificate, a free book, and other neat prizes. To earn museum passes and prizes you need to register; sign up goes from June to August 1st , and you may begin logging your time on June 21st.
There is also a full calendar of activities that children can participate in as the mood strikes them—there’s no sign-up required. From competitive Scrabble, Pajama storytimes, recycled crafts and special programs on going green, there’s always something going on. Students have been given calendars at all Woburn public schools, and also at St. Charles. If your children go to schools outside of Woburn, please check their website calendar for activities or drop by the library to pick up a copy. For more information about the children’s summer reading program, please call Children’s Librarian Cynthia Fordham at 781-937-0405, or email her at cfordham@minlib.net.
Green Teens
All students going into grades 6 through 12 are eligible for the teen summer program, “Go Green @ Woburn Public Library.” The summer program is full of awesome teen events and cool prizes. And, because the tracking component is entirely online, it is easy to earn chances for prizes (even if you go on vacation). Once you sign up, you get entered into the next raffle every time you log your reading. Prizes include books, movie rentals, gift certificates to local businesses, and a grand prize of a "Green Teen" gift basket with things to help you go green! All types of reading count, from magazines to books, graphic novels to blogs – just log in and tell us what you’ve been reading for chances in the raffle.
To sign up for the teen summer reading program, and for more information about upcoming teen events, visit www.ReadsInMA.org/woburn , or pick up a calendar at the library. They have a summer packed with teen events that include recycled crafts, video game afternoons, a book swap/pizza party, an origami workshop and cookie decorating. Hungry? There will be free food at many of the events, so stop by the library this summer!
For more information about the teen program call Young Adult Librarian, Christi Showman Farrar at 781-933-0148 or email her at cfarrar@minlib.net.
When You Read, You Score!
Massachusetts libraries have joined together with the Boston Bruins again this year to add even more fun to the summer. When you sign up for either the children’s or teen program you also have the option to join the Bruins Read Program. Everyone signed up will be entered for a chance at great Bruins prizes, like signed pucks and jerseys and a chance to meet the team! To be eligible you must sign up online at www.ReadsInMA.org/woburn
Summer Reading isn’t Just for Kids Anymore
The Woburn Public Library is excited to announce its new Adult Summer Reading Program! Any adult can join, and all types of reading count. To sign up visit the library’s summer reading website www.ReadsinMA.org/woburn and select the “Adult Summer Reading” tab. Every time you read, log into your account and record how long you have read; for every two hours you read you will earn an entry into a raffle. It’s that simple! Prizes include gift certificates, reusable bags, coffee mugs, books and more.
Interested in what other people are reading? Then check out the main page of the Adult Summer Reading Program and read reviews posted by other Woburn readers.
