YMCA Offers Safety Classes for Summer Swimming

North Suburban YMCAWith summer just around the corner the North Suburban YMCA, located at 187 Lexington Street, reminds residential pool owners to take some time to learn about water safety and how to care for your pool.  This June the North Suburban YMCA will offer the following classes to help residential pool owners prepare for the
summer.

Basic Water Safety — June 30 to July 2, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Lifeguarding Class — June 22 to June 26, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Learn To Swim Weeks — June 22 to June 26

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that each year, nationwide, more than 300 children under 5 years old drown in residential swimming pools, usually a pool owned by their family. For this reason it is important to take the proper safety measures as a pool owner. Learning CPR, enrolling children in swimming lessons, and placing fencing around the pool are just a few ways to keep the pool environment safe in your backyard.

Aside from ensuring that necessary safety precautions are in place, properly maintaining pool water chemistry is perhaps the most important aspect of maintaining a swimming pool. Pool owners can save hundreds of dollars per year by learning how to properly maintain a pool and how to use chemicals to keep a pool clean.
