Come explore what it means to become an active advocate for a peaceful and hopeful future.

In the late 1990s, Rose Mapendo was imprisoned with her family during violence that engulfed the Democratic Republic of Congo. Her harrowing experience included the nighttime arrest of her entire family by government agents, the execution of her husband, the birth of their twin sons in prison, and grim negotiations with prison guards to save the lives of her children.  She emerged from the harrowing experience advocating forgiveness and reconciliation.

Join Boston Cares, the Boys & Girls Club of Somerville and the Lowell Wish Project to help make a difference in your community on Saturday, November 20th! Join local efforts on the national Family Volunteer Day promoted by the HandsOn Network. Volunteers of all ages, their families and friends are encouraged to participate in the Boston Cares’ day of service.
 

Project Bread Program Needs Volunteers

YMCAThe North Suburban YMCA in Woburn has become a partner with the Project Bread program.

Each summer, they create a pool of volunteers to serve lunches to underprivileged kids in the community. Every week day from June 28th through September 3rd, volunteers take lunches to the Green Street Pool and distribute them to kids who need them.

YMCA Running "To Hill and Back"

ymca logoWork off those Holiday calories at the To Hill and Back run sponsored by Batteries Plus this Friday, November 28th.  Enjoy a 4.25 mile trail run to the top of Horn Pond Mountain in Woburn.   The race begins at 10:00am.  There is a $15 registration fee before November 19th and $20 after November 19th. Runners registered before November 19th will receive a long sleeve T-shirt.  All proceeds will benefit the 2008 Reach Out For Youth Campaign. Bingo Volunteer Needed
